[[..:start|Contents]] | [[start|Appendix]] ====== Preparing optical discs (CD/DVD/BD) ====== ===== Linux, BSD, Unix ===== cdrecord or cdrskin ==== Getting the device name ==== * Both cdrskin and cdrecord will find the device name automatically if there is only one drive/writer. * if that doesn't work or you have more than one device capable of writing optical disks, you may need to provide the device of the disc writer you want to use (''dev=/dev/[device]'') Generally running ''dmesg | grep cd'' and trying to find the dev name there should work. Note: You may/most likely have to be root run ''dmesg''. More comforatble methods: * In case you're using ''cdrskin'', you can run cdrskin --devices * Linux-based systems (all of them? most of most? just xy of them?) $ cat /proc/sys/dev/cdrom/info | grep "drive name" drive name: sr0 * See also: https://www.debian.org/CD/faq/#record-unix ===== Mac OS ===== * https://devuan.org/os/documentation/install mentions, you can use “‘Disk Utility’ on OSX” * see also https://www.debian.org/CD/faq/#record-mac ===== Windows ===== * see https://www.debian.org/CD/faq/#record-windows
