Agenda 🔼
Old Business 🔼
Old Actions 🔼
- Install mediawiki onto Devuan infra and transfer current dokuwiki contents
New Business 🔼
- (golinux) Here's a draft of the beta announcement. Please review: https://pad.dyne.org/code/#/1/view/-YZUN8x5C09cvi1y+0w8WQ/691u+l8esDQJbQZFUAvI68PgRb1hO2cV9eSPk-VIZeQ/
New Actions 🔼
- Release a Valentine's special tomorrow!!!!
Irrwahn 🔼
- Tested (using netinst iso) Cinnamon, LXDE, LXQt, MATE, KDE/Plasma, Xfce on system(s) with elogind-enabled policykit, with SLiM, lightdm and sddm. Lightdm and sddm always led to a fully functional desktop, while with slim some DEs were occasionally missing the Hibernate and Suspend options. Of course the default setup consolekit/SLiM/Xfce remains fully functional. Even an all-in installation with every tasksel option checked provided me with six different DEs that could be started by three different DMs, results as above. A quick test with lxdm on that system yielded results similar to those achieved with
- We should be prepared for minor glitches when people update older Ascii installations. In some reported cases libpolkit-backend-1-0-systemd got pulled in, which is useless for session management in Devuan.
- Encountered no bugs I'd consider beta-RC during the testing marathon.
- Shout-out to amesser, Hleb, gnu_srs (and whoever I forgot, sorry!) for packaging, and last not least KatolaZ for patiently kicking d-i into shape!
rrq 🔼
- get rDNS for dev1galaxy.org reinstated. (has got lost somehow) (golinux) I alerted jaromil to this at the Monday meet today
- installed and configured znc at dev1galaxy.org:65530 (using SSL with self-signed certificate) znc is an "IRC bouncer".
- run as znc-server at dev1galaxy. manually.
- set up myself as admin.
- ((Irrwahn) Great! Done, thanks a lot! :-) ~~May I humbly dare to apply for an account? Would solve my backlog issues.~~)
- easiest (for me) is by email including preferred user name and (first) password. I believe the account is then configurable with a web browser pointed at the same host:port.
- trialling the use of the forum SSL cert; to be permanent, it'll require a one-liner added to the cert update.
KatolaZ 🔼
- rounding up:
- [IN-PROGRESS] d-i
- netinst
- dvd-inst
- [IN-PROGRESS] minimal-live
- mirrors (deb.d.o)
- files.d.o
golinux 🔼
- At my suggestion, rrq set up znc (an irc bouncer) at dev1galaxy so dev1rs can have access to irc activity while they have been
- Talk to Ralph if you want to have an account there.
- In addition to the dev1galaxy dns issues, someone from Dyne will look into the missing emails on lurker that both blinkdog and I observed.
- (rrq) the URL sugggested they were moved temporally to end of time,
- Several of us have tried to contact Evilham but there has been no
- Here is a gnome-darkpurpy icon theme to compliment the darkpurpy desktop wallpaper. Note that this is intended for the stable release, not the beta https://transfer.sh/qZPYy/gnome-darkpurpy.zip I would LOVE to have them repackaged and included as default but evidently that's not so easy to do. Currently I am just replacing them in a copy of /usr/share/icons/gnome named gnome-darkpurpy. I do hope that one of you can figure this out.
- (Irrwahn) Note: Upstream of gnome-icon-theme looks stale since March 2014. They seem to favor Adwaita. Maybe the MATE fork at https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-icon-theme would make for a better foundation?
- (golinux) Believe me I weighed all options before settling on the gnome set. The Mate icons which are basically a customized gnome are too bright and garrish for anything I'd want to look at. Until ascii I'd been using gnome icons that date back to 2010! Now that's stale - not! The folder icons (the only ones that need re-coloring) have hardly changed since then but there are more device icons etc. and the gnome ones are fairly unobtrusive.
- (Irrwahn) Okay, but would forking a stale icon theme be any good? I would expect a lot of icons missing.)
- (golinux) I have never noticed an icon missing even with the very 'stale' set. Of course that's just my usecase.
dimitsos 🔼
- Have done some test installs (latest mini isos, internal beta). Tried both simple and expert installs with network attached, trying out KDE 5. I think I 've stumbled upon a bug: I install synaptic from console, but then I cannot open it from the menu. Can anyone reproduce that?
- (golinux) well-known issue. I can't remember the fix. I just use gksu from a launcher.) I used pkgmaster.do A few months earlier, I did a jessie install, with no DE, which I then upgraded to ASCII. That problem with the menu didn't occur back then.
- An idea for possibly a point release: Along with the other tasksel options, we could also include an option for an openbox desktop, with obmenu-generator, tint2 and the like (a lightweight option, like vuu-do or star). Never forget that there is a lot of old, "outdated" hardware out there, that is poorly used, or not used at all. Having an option of a desktop with little cpu and ram usage would be great.
- I have some other ideas, too, but imho they would fit better with devuan 3.
- (Irrwahn) Would be nice to have a place to collect Beowulf wishlist items?!)
