Agenda 🔼
Old Business 🔼
msi 🔼
- Devuan documentation
- Devuan's official docs should be presented at doc.devuan.org, with devuan.org/doc(umentation) as an alias to that
- devuan.org/os/documentation exists, but maybe should be moved (Ask golinux.)
- (golinux) Basic essential documentation should stay on devuan.org/os/documentation but content could be expanded or tweaked and have a prominent reference to the wiki once it is fleshed out a bit more. It is poor form to send someone off-site for basic information.
- (msiism) I don't see the point of keeping it around. It's content could be integrated into the doc.devuan.org landing
- Also, I wasn't able to find a way to get there from devuan.org's navigation bar. Plus: The exact same content is also on devuan.org/os.
- (golinux) - AFAIK there is not even a placeholder for doc.devuan.org And IMO we do not have enough docs yet to warrant it.
- (msiism) But if you really want to keep it, so be it. (Structure of the website is another discussion.)
- (blinkdog) As I understand Search Engine Optimization, it's OK to move content around, but the important point is not to duplicate content over many URLs (old URLs should redirect to new ones), otherwise the weight gets divided between pages, and sinks all of them in the search rankings. But, if we choose a canonical location and make sure we refer to it, the engines will reindex our content well when they crawl our site(s) again.
- Licensing
- A question that remained open last week: On the basis of what has been decided, should the CC-BY-SA 4.0 license be applied to all wiki contributions automatically? (This would mean that anyone contributing to Devuan's documentation through the wiki would have to go by that license.)
* (msi) I think it should. Otherwise, there will potentially be chaos (Imagine a guide with contributions from 10 different people using 5 different licenses.). People who don't want to use that license could still contribute to the Devuan docs, but not through the wiki. I think that's a reasonable trade-off.
* (NewGnuGuy) I concur. It is a good license. Either that or CC-BY if a copyleft license is not desired, but I personally prefer copyleft.

- Clearlooks-Phenix-DarkPurpy has been sent to fsmithred for packaging. Last glitches (that I'm aware of) are fixed with assistance from some very helpful folks on the Xfce forum.
- The maintainer of C-P wrote this on a closed issue so I have no idea what theme options to expect for Beowulf. I know the feeling . . .
- (C-P Theme Maintainer) I already have 6 Clearlooks-Phénix versions for different GTK versions and it's not yet compatible with GTK 3.16 and 3.18 (so more versions are needed). Honestly, I'm so tired of seeing my theme breaking at each new GTK version. It's too much work, and I no longer have any fun maintaining this theme.
- (msi) If the GTK devs keep on breaking compatibility with every release like that, I think support for GTK 3 from Devuan should just be dropped (I'm aware of the consequences).
- Are you? All those GTK3 apps would have to be forked.
- (msi) The whole thing seems to be sufficiently annoying to seriously start looking for alternatives, some of which could be:
* TDE (based on TQT, a fork of Qt3)
* LXQt (Qt4 and/or 5(?))
* Lumina (Qt5)
* EDE (FLTK-based)
* or even CDE (Motif-based), when its Linux port is stable
* (golinux) I'm nowhere near jumping ship yet. Besides it's not really a DE issue. There are way too many GTK apps that will still need to be supported.
* Suggested changes to the devuan.org color palette. Header and footer reflect ascii colors. Links a little darker (good for accessibility). Everything else is the same. Thoughts? http://www.saynotogmos.org/devuan-final/index-ascii.html
* (NewGnuGuy) I think the design looks good. I'm no designer though. As far as HTML syntax is concerned I point to https://validator.w3.org/nu/?doc=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.saynotogmos.org%2Fdevuan-final%2Findex-ascii.html and https://validator.w3.org/nu/?doc=https%3A%2F%2Fdevuan.org%2F
* (golinux) As discussed during the meet . . . that page is flat HTML which is similar but not identical to the live site. But it does look like there are some errors on the site itself: https://validator.w3.org/nu/?doc=https%3A%2F%2Fdevuan.org%2F I will attempt to clean them up but no guarantees as I get rather lost in that hairball.
* Still waiting for Evilham so we can work on updating website content.
rrq 🔼
- built first version test rig for installation ISO testing.
- Single scenario so far: KatolaZ's ascii mini iso (28 Jan), "standard" h/w (QEMU) set up with single network interface, local DHCP, forwarded DNS, local repository cache, Aussie default choices.
- https://git.devuan.org/ralph.ronnquist/isore
KatolaZ 🔼
- hacked on d-i:
- the whole thing is a mixture of a hairball and a chinese crystal shop cramped in a 2x2x2 meters room
- we have a more-or-less working image (20180131+devuan5) which implements a workaround to a problem in anna/libdebian-installer (may the developer responsible for that suffer at least 15 minutes of abdominal pain, as a punishment for his evil/stupid actions)
- we are also working in parallel at a proper fix, but this way we can speed-up the tests with netinst images
- will start working (with parazyd, jaromil, etc.) on netinst images for ascii beta from tomorrow
- will need branding material for the installer: please provide it asap
- (golinux) There is already a splash screen for the desktop-live that can be used.
- need to build the missing packages to have xfce sorted out
blinkdog 🔼
- logind memory leak appears capped: https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/8015
- Talked to DocScrutinizer about gtfobot; may work on that this weekend
- Funny: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltzy5vRmN8Q
New Actions 🔼
- provide a 2-cd set for the installer
- start using isore for systematic iso testing
- build the missing xfce4 packages
- build the theme package
- policykit-1 for experimental
