Agenda 🔼
Old Business 🔼
Old Actions 🔼
- ACTION: @jaromil give katolaz access to the current dak installation
- ACTION: give access katolaz/parazyd to packages.devuan.org
- ACTION: @jaromil give access to discourse for evilham
- ACTION: (KatolaZ) put list of mirrors *somewhere* for Evilham to pull it
- (Evilham) this can be GL, a website, on the mirrors, ... :) doesn't matter
- ACTION: put the list of package mirrors on the webpage
New Business 🔼
- (golinux) How are we going to work around Dan's absence for ascii release? Would not be happy if that proves to be a blocker (yet again).
- (parazyd) so far so good. discuss later.
- devuan-cd source code from production: https://pub.parazyd.cf/tmp/devuan-cd/
- Check DAK's config for basic stuff like ascii-proposed not having binary-all or sources (check for other suites)
- This blocks base-files
- (KatolaZ) I think we cannot have two versions of the same package in all and in any. This cannot be solved. The easiest way would be to revert base-files to any (and have a package for each arch)
- /etc/debianversion fsr says ubuntu has /etc/debianversion. ideally, we should have it as well and track whatever debian version we are
- e.g. jessie/jessie, ascii/stretch.
New Actions 🔼
- ACTION: test out debsources on some server.
blinkdog 🔼
- Meet Notes from Nov 29
- List: https://lists.dyne.org/lurker/message/20171130.012219.e158116c.en.html
- Wiki: https://friendsofdevuan.org/doku.php/community:development:devuan-dev_meet_notes:2017:november_29_2017
- virtualbox install bug #166
- cloc-all-systemd
- Occupied a core for 72+ hours running `cloc` on every commit in the systemd git repository
- http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~meade/result.tar.gz
- :: Sorry, ran out of time to prepare interesting graphs for the meeting ::
- pad-reformat
- Sent to Evilham and golinux for alpha testing
- Published to git.devuan.org: https://git.devuan.org/blinkdog/pad-reformat
- http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~meade/pad-reformat-0.0.1/pad-reformat.html
- Sprint Planning
- I cleared my calendar 15-17; sprint hours, sprint tasks?
- debian-cd: to build the installers (check if work is needed)
- (KatolaZ) ASCII Sprint pad: https://pad.dyne.org/code/#/1/view/0gG37jK9jpatqub0wsD4UQ/66Fs11sSRdnz0cVvu6VeZXloIHy5NzOxHUYl-Nsxmvs/
- ZFS packaging
- Chris Dos chris@chrisdos.com writes:
- The Debian ZFS package maintainer is ignoring the sysvinit script
- https://bugs.devuan.org/db/14/14.html
- https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=826994 <- initscript posted here
- It would also be really nice if zfs binary modules where included in Ascii like what Ubuntu does.
- Email mentions KatolaZ
- Looks like a job for PkgShaper if Debian upstream doesn't take the patch?
- (KatolaZ) for Evilham: is there a git repo of PkgShaper?
- sources.debian.org
- Nice JSON API: https://sources.debian.org/doc/api/
- Debsources is AGPLv3+
- Should we stand one up for Devuan packages?
- (parazyd) we could do it if we redirect to debian where our packages are nonexistent. (re)generating a full tree of packages and files is wasteful
dimitsos 🔼
- The URL of Exe Gnu/Linux (http://exegnulinux.net) doesn't work any
- Maybe we should point to https://sourceforge.net/projects/exegnulinux/ instead. It would also be nice if we contacted David Hare.
- (golinux) Who is that 'we' if not you?
- (dimitsos) First of all, I can't edit Devuan's page. Secondly, if I had his e-mail I would have contacted him already.
- (golinux) You now have his email. Go for it.
- (fsmithred) dzz has been MIA since last spring. Would love to hear from him.
- (golinuz) No response from him so far
- (golinuz) [DONE] Will put up the sourceforge link
fsmithred 🔼
- SOLVED: I need to know if and when slim will be repackaged for ascii or if we will use another display manager. If the latter, then the slim dep in task-xfce-desktop needs to be changed. If neither of these things happens, I need to figure out which packages to install in the desktop live without using the task package.
parazyd 🔼
- built eudev + udev transitionals for ascii with Svante's help
- ascii users will now be forced to eudev. already live on pkgmaster, should hit auto.mirror/packages.do in the next 24 hours
- should we change the website urls from auto.mirror to deb.devuan.org ?
- (Evilham) If there are no downsides: will do it over the weekend
- (KatolaZ) Hold on: I would prefer to have at least the DNS RR in place first
- latest util-linux is also in ascii with the exception of arm64
- our arm64 odroid can't build util-linux since it has possible hardware issues regarding this specific situation. we'll try to get some arm64 computing power in asap. (telmich could be lending us some computing power soon :))
- we need to delete obsolete ssh packages from ascii and use upstream again
- who is attending tasksel?
- (KatolaZ) I did for jessie. Will leave it until the very end maybe (we must know what is in and what is not)
- (Evilham) will move forward work on the "PkgShaper" thing looks like a good option
- will work on better version recognition for amprolla3 since there are some false positives appearing in oldpackages.txt
- will work on better logging for amprolla3 since we don't have a good way to log unhandled exceptions with cron jobs (no, redirecting to a file is not a good option)
- (KatolaZ) I suggest using rsyslog, from each thread. My2cents
- should we stop merging architectures that are not x86/arm until we get actual build hardware?
- are we preparing for the actual stable->oldstable and testing->stable switch? probably KatolaZ will know more when he's into dak. Centurion_Dan says he won't be back before xmas.
- (golinux) Good grief . . . Guess we'll have to do it without him.
golinux 🔼
- Contacted by sahil on irc about this issue. Is there a way to provide NM without making it mandatory? Seems there should be a way to do that in expert install. Is there a fix on his end or is it on our end?
- (Sahil) I had one issue in both amd64 and i386 DVD iso, NetworkManager, ModemManager and usb_modeswitch are included in DVD but it won't be installed in normal "Install" or "Expert Install"
- (Sahil) I tried few things to install NetworkManager and its dependences many times I even tried to chroot to the devuan from Debian Live image, I think the release engineer will know the issue and fix it in the next release.
- (Sahil) Most of the users in development countries are using USB Modems(mostly Huawei) and NetworkManager are the first thing we need to continue using a recently installed distro.
- (Sahil) I saw wicd in Live iso, but it dos not support Mobile Broadband (usb modem). NetworkManager will recognize the modem when ModemManager and usb_modeswitch are installed with NetworkManager. These packages are included in the DVD iso but it can't be installed
- (Sahil) I first tried "Install" and in "Select and Install Software" I choose-d " ..... Xfce" with the other defaults groups like ( [*] Devuan desktop environment , [*] Print server] , [*] Standard system utilities ).
- (Sahil) I also tried "Expert install" with [*] .... Xfce , but NetworkManager nor modemmanager and usb_modeswitch are not
- Plugging away on the theming. I had forgotten what a brain twister it
- Will hopefully have a version ready for testing soon. Am a bit behind because I've had to deal with hardware issues. If APC still provided ethernet connections on their consumer UPS, I would now have ascii installed on metal. They are phasing that feature out on their consumer units because "everything is going wireless". Finally found one but won't arrive for over a week. And then the HD in my DVR died and then . . .
Evilham 🔼
- Not much to tell this week, #Hack4Glarus from the lovely people at ungleich was very interesting, they have big plans which will end up intersecting with devuan's :)
- Got a VPS that is going to be running devuan-related bots.
- PkgShaper bot is advanced, hopefully will work on it this weekend and have unattended-upgrades fixed.
- After that going to try tasks / virtualbox / ...
KatolaZ 🔼
- we are done with the transition to the new ganeti configuration
- nemesis has been shut down now. newtonia and napier are in charge
- created ASCII minimal-live images - they work
- worked a bit on reportbug to fix smtp_host problems
- going through the list of bugs affecting ASCII -- prioritising them for the sprint
- slowed down on dak/aptly- hope to have time to work on them this week-end
